Borovets is situated 1300 meters above sea level in the northern part of the Rila Mountains. The highest point of the resort is 2560m. Borovets offers excellent conditions for both winter and summer sports and tourist attractions. The winter is continuous, soft, with lots of snowfall, reaching over 2 meters of snow coverage at the higher points.
Borovets resort is situated 70km from Sofia and about 120km from Plovdiv. The closest town is the municipal center, Samokov. The roads are well maintained during throughout the year.
The winter ski center is the biggest one in Bulgaria and offers a wonderful setting for alpine skiing, snowboard, extreme skiing, ski-running, ski jumping and biathlon.
Borovets offers more than 58km of marked ski runs, the longest of which is 12km, a ski-running track 35km long, a biathlon track, as well as a 70 meter long ski jumping hill.
The ski area features 3 alpine skiing and snowboard zones:
- Ski center Sitnyakovo – between 1350m and 1780m above sea level, features artificial snow cannons covering 2km of ski runs- “Martinovi Baraki”, as well as tracks for night runs- “Iglika” and “Rila”
- Ski center Yastrebets – between 1340m and 2369m above sea level, features artificial snow cannons that provided perfect snow coverage over the “Popangelov” (former “Yastreb 2”) and “Yastreb 3” tracks, an area of 200 acres
- Ski center “Markudzhik” – between 2144m and 2550m above sea level.
Due to the difference in the difficulty of the ski runs, they are suitable for both beginners and advanced skiers.
The ski runs are grouped into 3 regions:
- Sitnyakovo – Martinowi Baraki – Markudzhik – Yastrebets
Borovets resort has twice been host to the World Cup in alpine style.
There are many hotels situated on the territory of Borovets with ranging categories, lots day and night clubs, restaurants, taverns and etc. For those of you who want to be active during both day and night, we have perfect conditions for night skiing, parties all night, drinks in quiet, romantic atmospheres or just a dinner with your favorite people.
And for our youngest visitors, there is a children’s snow park, offering great fun and the comfort of their parents to indulge in their favorite winter sports. For the older kids there is a FUN park, where everyone can have fun together.
In the summertime Borovets offers no less fun activities for people of all ages.
For those of you who love extreme experiences, we offer an unforgettable Off road throwback. There are two routes- both a light and a heavy run. The light run route goes through the Sarangyol locality, lasting between 2 and 3 hours, and goes through breathtaking views, centuries old pine forests, and amazing forest views. The heavy run route lasts between 3 and 4 hours and its final stop is Maritsa hut. All routes feature transportation via an SUV and a professional driver-guide.
For all the nature lovers, there is the Iskar hunting ground, where more than 1500 wildlife live, among which are the red deer, fallow deer, wild boar and mouflon. Borovets’ guests can experience unique meeting with the natural world of the Rila Mountains. Rope town – Borolandia – an emotion for both young and old! The guests of Borovets can give into their “inner Tarzan” in the well-built rope town. Climb with friend, family or on your own, just for the fun of it. All the facilities are fully secured and feature instructors who will make sure of your enjoyment and relaxation.

Located near one of the largest dams in Bulgaria, Borovets will take care of all the fishing lovers. Around 5km from the resort, there are amazing settings available for fishing and relaxation around nature.
